Reddit is making significant moves into the sports marketing industry. On Monday, the platform unveiled new partnerships with prominent sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
Through these partnerships, Reddit users will gain access to various types of content, such as video highlights from games and tournaments, player AMAs (ask me anything sessions), behind-the-scenes footage, and other exclusive materials shared by the leagues during their seasons and key events.
The platform reported having over 1,000 active communities centered around sports, which have seen a notable uptick in engagement. Screenviews of sports-related forums increased by 26% in the past year.
The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching over $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.
In its efforts to bolster revenue ahead of a public offering, Reddit previously secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing deal with Google in February. Following the announcement of these new sports partnerships, Reddit shares rose nearly 7% on Monday.
