INDIANAPOLIS — Following the death of Jim Irsay late last month, the Indianapolis Colts have officially announced the succession of leadership within the franchise. Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, and Kalen Jackson will take on prominent roles that they have been preparing for over the years.
Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Jim’s eldest daughter, will become the team’s principal owner, stepping into her father’s former role as owner and CEO. Casey Foyt will assume the title of owner and executive vice president, while Kalen Jackson will serve as owner, chief brand officer, and president of the Indianapolis Colts Foundation.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen praised the new leadership team for their dedication to the community and the team. “Their passion for this town, this city and the generosity, doing everything they can to help those players and this team be successful, is awesome,” he said.
Irsay-Gordon, 44, has long been immersed in the operations of the Colts, participating in NFL owners’ meetings since 2004 and engaging actively in various roles, including wearing headsets during games and attending practices. “When you talk football with her, she gets it,” Steichen added, emphasizing her deep involvement and understanding of the game.
At the NFL level, Irsay-Gordon is part of several key committees, including the Media Owned & Operated Committee and the Security & Fan Conduct Committee, among others. Foyt has also contributed significantly to community relations and was instrumental in the NFL’s first regular-season game in London. Jackson leads the Kicking the Stigma initiative and serves on several boards, reflecting her commitment to community and player welfare.
Both Irsay-Gordon and Jackson have fostered personal connections with players, emphasizing a hands-on approach that is somewhat rare in team ownership. “They’re in here daily, they’re talking to players, having one-on-one conversations,” said wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., highlighting the owners’ accessibility and willingness to engage with the team.
The transition in leadership comes at a pivotal moment for the Colts, with Irsay-Gordon, Foyt, and Jackson prepared to continue their father’s legacy while driving the franchise forward. Their commitment to the community and the team is expected to create a positive atmosphere as they step into their new roles.
This change in leadership not only signals continuity for the Colts but also brings a fresh perspective with Irsay-Gordon at the helm, potentially invigorating the franchise with her vision and passion for the game.
