Spring’s packed calendar of youth sports, graduations and family gatherings has made routine grocery shopping harder for many Gardner residents — but all four grocery chains in the city now offer home delivery through weekday and weekend store hours, giving shoppers multiple options to weigh on price and convenience.
Aldi and Price Chopper generally offer the lowest headline delivery prices in Gardner, while Hannaford and Walmart tend to come in higher. Third-party apps are available for several stores: Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats all serve portions of the area, though availability and fees vary by store and platform. Smaller independent markets in the region, such as Vincent Country Store in Westminster and Not Just Produce in Winchendon, do not offer delivery and are not listed on the major delivery apps.
Aldi, the newest grocer in Gardner, provides delivery, curbside pickup and in-store pickup. Orders placed between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily can be delivered via a “fast” option that costs $7.99 for soonest-possible arrival or a “scheduled” option for $1.99; both options carry an added $2.49 service fee. Depending on the number of bags used, a 12-cent bag fee may be applied at checkout. Instacart Plus members can get delivery without the store delivery charge but still pay the $2.49 service fee. Uber Eats also lists Aldi for grocery delivery in the area.
Price Chopper requires a minimum order of $10 for delivery and offers the same two-tiered speed structure as Aldi: a $7.99 fast option and a $1.99 scheduled slot, each with a $2.49 service fee. The store’s delivery window runs broadly from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week, and a 5-cent bag fee may be charged at checkout. Price Chopper is also available on DoorDash and Instacart, where service and platform fees can vary by time and store.
Hannaford’s online ordering imposes a flat $10 delivery fee for the Gardner location, but customers should note the platform’s approach to tips: after checkout the driver’s tip is automatically calculated based on the order total and cannot be manually adjusted on the example shown. A sample order of $61.15 included a $4.28 tip, bringing the delivery-related charges to $14.28 before any bag fees; Hannaford’s delivery hours run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and a 10-cent bag fee may apply. Hannaford is listed on DoorDash and Instacart as well.
Walmart’s Gardner store offers three delivery tiers — “scheduled” at $9.95, “three hours or less” at $14.95 and “Express” within the hour at $19.95 — with tips added separately. Walmart delivery is available from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Shoppers using third-party platforms should be aware those fees can sometimes exceed store-delivery charges: for example, a sample Uber Eats grocery order produced delivery fees of $13.26 on a $16.77 order, not including tip or bag charges.

With several competing services operating in Gardner, the out-of-pocket cost for the same grocery list can differ markedly once service fees, bag charges and mandatory or auto-added tips are included. Local shoppers balancing time, cost and convenience now have multiple daily delivery windows to choose from, whether ordering directly through stores or via Instacart, DoorDash or Uber Eats.
