Caitríona Balfe is joining the cast of the upcoming Apple Original Films project “Tenzing,” which already boasts a stellar lineup that includes Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe. Directed by Jennifer Peedom, who has a strong connection to the Tenzing family and the Sherpa community through her documentary “Sherpa,” the film tells the inspiring story of Tenzing Norgay’s historic ascent of Mount Everest in 1953 alongside New Zealander Edmund Hillary.
In “Tenzing,” Balfe will portray Jill Henderson, a friend of Tenzing who played a vital role in organizing expeditions to the world’s highest peak. The screenplay is penned by Oscar-nominated Luke Davies, known for “Lion,” and is produced by See-Saw Films, recognized for their work on “The King’s Speech.”
Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary’s groundbreaking climb was a remarkable feat that defied significant odds, with Tenzing having made several earlier attempts to summit Everest.
