Billie Eilish says she’s a devoted Survivor fan — but she doesn’t see herself lasting long on the island. Speaking with Amy Poehler on her podcast Good Hang, the singer said she can picture signing up for the long-running CBS competition, but warned that the show’s puzzle and math-based strategy would likely undo her.
“I love imagining that I could one day do it. But I am so bad with — the math part of the problems are the things that I couldn’t do,” Eilish told Poehler, adding that she feels more confident about the physical challenges. “I feel that I could do the physical stuff. I mean, I say that, which, sure, who knows, ’cause it’s so hard-seeming.” Her comments underscored a common divide between fans who relish Survivor’s endurance tests and those who struggle with its arithmetic-heavy immunities and strategic calculations.
Eilish isn’t just a viewer this season: she contributed directly to Survivor’s 50th season by lending her name to a custom immunity idol. Host and creator Jeff Probst told podcast listeners his production team sent Eilish several design options and she chose her favorite; Eilish also said she wrote a letter to the contestants introducing the “Billie Eilish” idol as their secret advantage.
The celebrity-branded idol carries an unusual “boomerang” mechanic. If a player tries to use the idol at Tribal Council, they must hand it to a member of the opposing tribe; should that recipient be voted out, the idol’s protection snaps back to its original owner. According to Probst and Eilish’s discussion, three contestants this season have already found the Billie Eilish idol and passed it along to players on the other tribe — but none of those original owners have yet seen the immunity return to them.
The involvement of high-profile fans is part of an unusually experimental 50th season that has leaned into fan-driven twists and surprise mechanics. The show has already surprised viewers with callbacks and unorthodox gameplay this year, including moments when Probst briefly stepped into the game environment himself — an indication, producers say, that the milestone season would bend some of Survivor’s long-standing conventions.

For now, Eilish remains content to watch and to lend a celebrity signature to the game rather than risk being the one doing the arithmetic under pressure. “I love imagining,” she said on Good Hang, a sentiment that leaves open the possibility she might one day try the experience for real — but only if someone else handles the math.
